Finding and arranging pages

Pages are listed under Pages in the sidebar. Each other kind of content the site defines has its own sidebar item, named after it, such as Snippets. The page list has two views, and a button in the screen's header switches between them: Table in the tree view, and Tree in the table view. Pages opens on the tree view.

The tree view

The tree view shows pages in their hierarchy, with child pages nested beneath their parents. Use it to understand or change the structure of the site.

To move a page:

  1. In Pages, in the tree view, find the page's row.
  2. Grab the row by its handle, labeled Drag to move.
  3. Drop the row in its new position. Dropping it onto another page moves it inside that page as a child.

The page's address changes to match its new position, and the address of every page inside it changes with it. The CMS records a redirect from each old address, so existing links continue to work. A notification reading "Moved" followed by the page title confirms the move.

A page with children has an arrow beside its handle. Clicking the arrow collapses that branch, and the collapsed row states how many pages it hides, for example "3 pages". The Collapse all button in the header collapses every branch and then reads Expand all. The panel remembers which branches are collapsed, so the tree looks the same on the next visit, and collapsed branches stay collapsed while other pages are dragged.

A page that has never been published is marked Draft. A page that was published and has since been withdrawn is marked Unpublished.

The table view

The table view is a flat list with no hierarchy, which can be sorted and searched. Use it to open a page whose name is known. The search box above the table matches the page's title and its slug (the last segment of its address). Clicking a column heading sorts the table by that column. The Status column shows one of Published, Changed, Scheduled, Unpublished or Draft.

Ticking rows in the table enables three bulk actions: Publish, Unpublish and Delete. Pages the action does not apply to, such as an already-published page with nothing new to publish, are skipped, and the notification states how many were skipped.

Searching the whole panel

The search box in the panel's top bar searches pages, snippets and every other kind of content at once, so the right screen does not have to be open first. It matches a title, a slug or a full address. Each result shows its Type and its Address (and its Language, on a multilingual site), which tells two pages with the same title apart. Clicking a result opens it for editing.

Shared regions

Some templates contain a shared region: an area of the page, such as a sidebar, that is filled once for the template and shown on every page built on it. On a page's edit screen, a shared region appears as a section marked with a Shared Region badge. Hovering over the badge shows an explanation.

The section is collapsed when the page opens. Expanded, it lists the blocks in the region instead of offering a block builder. To change those blocks:

  1. On the page's edit screen, expand the section marked Shared Region.
  2. Select Edit blocks. A panel slides in from the side of the screen; the page stays open behind it.
  3. Edit the blocks.
  4. Select Save & publish to publish the change, or Save as draft to keep it as a draft.

The change applies to every page that uses the template, not only to the page the panel was opened from. For that reason the slide-in panel has its own save buttons, separate from the page's.

The row menu

Every page has the same menu in both views, opened by the â‹® button at the end of its row:

Item What it does
Preview Opens the page's current draft as a visitor would see it, in a panel beside the list. Nothing is published.
Edit Opens the page's edit screen. Clicking the page's title does the same.
View live page Opens the published page in a new browser tab. Shown only when the page is published.
Add a child page Opens the new-page form with this page already set as the parent.
Duplicate page After a confirmation, creates a copy of the page beside it, with its blocks, settings, SEO fields and tags, and opens the copy for editing. The copy starts unpublished, is not scheduled, and is never the homepage. It records which page it was duplicated from.
Translate Creates a version of the page in another language. Described in section 14. Shown only on a multilingual site.
Delete Stops the page being served. It then returns 404 and can be restored afterwards. Deleting a page does not delete the pages inside it: they move to the top of the tree and their addresses change. In the tree view, the confirmation states how many pages are inside the page before you confirm.
